Nanzuka Underground is pleased to announce the solo exhibition of works by Akiyoshi Mishima. This is the third exhibition for him, which comprises of the installation including video work , painting and mixed media sculpture.
This exhibition is a continuation of his solo debut exhibition 「QUARTER」 in 2006. Mishima expressed the responsibilities and possibilities, which his generation undertakes with the future, by analyzing his cultural roots and realities of three generations after the world-war in its exhibition. Categorized generations are, 「First Generation (grandfather and grandmother) Collision」, 「Second Generation (father and mother) Rule and Conflict」, and 「Third Generation (myself) Acceptance and Fusion」.
In this Exhibition, Mishima aims at the origin relation which human beings share with possible live objects on the earth and entrusts the possibility of mutual peaceful coexistence into the title of 「FAMILY」. Mishima discribes about his mask work that he made for this exhibition as follow.
「Originally, the mask has been used in order to acquire the special power by wearing it. It was told in the man's history that it will be the most fearful when the true character was revealed. However, possibly it was the virtual image which covered with vicious mask, not what really is. My mask is a natural portrait which has the power to prevent man's malignancy, and leads to the Nature Creation.」
That’s why Mishima gazes man's past, present, and future, who were evolved by hybridization, the performers in Mishima's work looks mysterious complexes of a human, a monkey, a bird, a beast, a fish, or a reptiles.
It is going to be the first exhibition for us after we are moving to Gallery Complex in Shirogane, Collaborating with Yamamoto Gendai, Kodama Gallery. LONDON GALLERY, Research Institute for Novel Natural-Materials Co., Ltd., and Tomoyuki Sakakida Architect Associates Co.,ltd.

三嶋章義個展 [ FAMILY ]

このたび、Nanzuka Undergroundは、三嶋章義の新作個展「FAMILY」を開催致します。三嶋にとって三度目の個展となる本展は、映像作品とミクストメディアのマスク群からなるインスタレーションとなる予定です。
今回の展覧会は、2006年に開催された三嶋のデビュー個展「QUARTER」の続編です。「QUARTER」において、三嶋は、戦後第三世代を生きる自らの文化的なルーツとリアリティーを、「第一世代（祖父母）における衝突」、「第二世代（父母）における支配と葛藤」、「第三世代（自分）における受容と融合」と分析し、自らの世代が未来に負う責任と可能性について表しました。
そして、今回の個展において、三嶋は、私たち人類が地球上のあらゆる生命体と共有している根源的な繋がりに着目し、互いの平和的共存の可能性を、その「FAMILY」というタイトルに託します。三嶋は今回の個展のために制作したマスクについて次のように語っております。
「本来マスクは、それを被ることによって特別な力を得るために用いられてきました。人間は過去の歴史から見ても、その本性が暴かれた時が一番恐ろしい。いや、もしかすると、それは本来の素顔ではなく、邪悪なマスクを被った虚像だったのかもしれない。僕の作るマスクは、人間の悪性を封じる力を持ち、森羅万象へと通じる自然な肖像です。」
三嶋作品の出演者たちが、人猿類とも鳥獣とも、あるいは魚類爬虫類とも思えるような不思議な複合生命体であるのは、三嶋のまなざしが、異種交配によって進化した人間の過去と現在と未来をみつめているからなのです。
本展は、当ギャラリーが白金ギャラリーコンプレックスに居を移して初の展覧会となります。どうぞ、本展を皆様にご覧頂けると幸いです。
